The furnace was off when we opened the library on Tuesday.
We soldiered on until the heat came up, just before noon. Hope no one missed out on a library visit while we were warming up an the town office.

The Nichols Library is closed on Monday, Janurary 2nd for the New Year’s Holiday.
(*Hogmanay is the Scottish word for the last day of the year and is the start of a celebration which lasts in some cases through 2 January (Scottish Bank Holiday). Hogmanay traditions include bonfires, first-footing, and black buns.

This year’s winner of the Man Booker prize for fiction was A Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes. The prize is given each year for best original full-length novel written by a citizen of the British Commonwealth. At the Nichols Library, not having a book on hand is not the end of the world. More often than not, the library can satisfy reader’s special interests through our interlibrary loan service. As a member of the library staff notes, “our patrons have all kinds of interests that we could never hope to keep with. For them, interlibrary loan is a godsend.” Read more
